Passover Gifts - The Star Of David And Its Meaning

By Dale Pindling

It is the "Star of David" or in Hebrew ,"Magen David" which in English means “The Shield Of David”. The six pointed star linked to King David is one of the most significant symbols in all of Judaism.Due to its popularity, there are many possible meanings associated with the star of David. However, the most popular meaning of the symbol is : that God rules over everything and that he protects all from all points ; north, east, south, west, up and down.

What is its link to King David ? King David used the 6 pointed star as a representation of his name. How is this so? David in Hebrew is represented by three characters which are : “Dalet”, “Vav” and “Dalet”. The Hebrew character Dalet is a triangle , so King David took the two “Dalets” in his name (which are both triangles) to represent himself as his signature.

King David also placed this six pointed symbol on his shield in which he used for battle. He believed that this symbol would help him secure the help of God and victory on the battlefield.

More ideas of significance:

Since around the 1600’s Jews began to place the symbol on Jewish places of worship and it is currently on the flag of the State Of Israel.

The symbol's other possible connections are with Kabbalah, the Age Of The Aquarius, the Merkaba, astrology and more.

Most "Star Of David" are sold as pendants. These pendants usually come in gold or silver and are at times placed within a circle.

This coming Passover, a gift stamped with the “Star Of David” is the perfect fit for the most blessed occasion.
